Black History Month at Rowser Building
February 11 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Stafford County invites you to honor Black History Month with a free guided tour of the Rowser Building and the Path to Freedom Mural from 5-7 pm on February 11th, 2020.
Frank White will discuss the significant contributions that African Americans have made to Stafford’s history as well as America’s history. A special presentation will follow the tour. The Rowser Building, located at 1739 Jefferson Davis Hwy., was originally built in 1939 by the Public Works Administration as the Stafford Training School (a term used in the South to differentiate a White high school from a Black high school). It was the only place where Black students could receive an education beyond the 7th grade. This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Virginia Landmark.
